I was born in 1984. In 2014 I noticed that, with some luck, I had reached the middle of my life. I spent that January in Ecuador. I wandered its cities, mountains, jungles and beaches with my camera. I remember one night, with my feet in the Pacific Ocean, where I felt as far from home as from my childhood. That was when I had a peculiar new vertigo regarding time; no longer about the unforeseeable future, but when faced with the unsettling feeling of the fading of the past. I can remember my childhood, but I can no longer believe that child to be me. Until then I underestimated death by anticipating its arrival at any future instant, candidly dismissing its relentless advance from all flanks; lurking in the future and unravelling oneself from one’s memory. Under the shadow of that fictional equator in my life, I travelled the Ecuador of nature and stones, of children and cities, sewing it to my memory, which was threaded through the film.
